Schedule and Timing:

Open from sunrise to sunset on all days. During prayer times, only Muslims may enter inside the Mosque.

Description:

Built on a hillock, it is the walled city’s signature monument. Shah Jahan who earlier created the Taj Mahal commissioned this Friday Mosque in 1650.

The main congregational masjid in the area, its courtyard has a full capacity of 25,000 people.

The balconies and platforms offer commanding views. The northern view looks to the Red Fort’s ramparts; the south view exposes the Old Delhi’s busy streets and concrete structures.

Visitors can climb the mosque’s southern minaret which offers a panoramic 360-degree view from the top.

Modest dressing is advised if you are planning to go inside the premises. Women tourists are given kaftans to put on over their clothes.
