Description:The Ollur Parish also known as the Malakhapalli is one of the oldest and also the biggest parish in India. The church is named after St Antony. However, it is famous for it's special reverence to the Archangel Raphael and the annual feast of St Raphael which is celebrated on the 23rd to 25th of October every year.
Ollur Church history
1718 June 13 - Started celebrating holy mass
1722 - Started construction of the church. Murals on the Madbaha and artworks in wood were done Based on the life and history of St Antony. Because of this elaborate artwork, the Church came to be called as 'Chinna Roma'.
1750 -Started celebrating the feast of St. Sebastian.
1790 - Relived the attack on the church by Tipu's army.
1814 - Construction of the giant wall around the church was completed.
1837 - Started the feast of St Raphael which was among the three most famous church festivals in the kingdom of Kochi.
1845 - A small church alongside the cemetery was constructed on the northern side of the church.
1870 - The The main altar covered with gold was constructed.
1874 - The divine mercy chapel was constructed inside the church.
1876 - A letter from the Pope Pius 9th congratulating the people of the parish was read.
1883 - The seven storey bell tower was reconstructed with three bells producing 3 different sounds installed. The bells had the images of 3 saints engraved on it.
1918 - The 200th anniversary of the Parish was celebrated and the statue of St. Antony was installed.
1996 - The 800th birth anniversary of St Antony was celebrated.
The original Ollur parish is now spread over 20 different parishes.
