The Jaipur International Kite Flying Festival is held on the Makar Sankranti day, which is 14th of January.
Description:The Jaipur kite flying festival is organised by the Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation. Kite shops, food stalls and cultural events are also a part of the festival.
The kites were believed to wake up the Gods and at one time only the royals were allowed to fly kites. Kite flying has now however become more of a recreational activity and for fun.
Kites are now made with a variety of materials including paper, plastic, metal foils, leaves etc. Illuminated kites are also a recent innovation.
