Description:Kizhakkumpattukara a residential suburb of Thrissur celebrate Onam with a grand Kummattikali on the day after Thirvonam. It is also called Thekkumuri Kummatti.
The Kummattis cover their body with heavy cots of plaited grass and wear giant facades. The facades are usually of Narada, Hanuman, Kattalan, Krishna, Thalla (Old Female, a symbol of Parvathi) etc.
This is accompanied by traditional percussions and band melam. Huge floats depicting scenes and characters from the Puranas are also present. There are typical rhythmic drum beats as well as songs associated with Kummatti kali.
Another interesting part is the Kavadi. Both Peelikavadi and Pookavadi are part of the procession.
