Description:Designed by the English architect Robert Tor Russel, who also designed Connaught Place, Teen Murti Bhavan was built in 1930. Built for the commander-in-chief of the British Indian Army, the stately mansion was the residence of Jawaharlal Nehru who lived here from 1948 to until his death in 1964.
The massive 30 room residence is spread over 45 acres, gardens included, the mansion is filled with old-world elegance.
After the death of Jawaharlal Nehru, this was converted into a national memorial dedicated to him. It is now called Nehru Memorial Museum and Library. The library is open only to accredited research scholars.
Musty books line the corridors. Family portraits of Nehru- Gandhi family deck the walls. Grand staircases, wood-panelled galleries and low-hanging ceiling fans add to the character.
Drawing rooms and bedrooms look so ready to use that one half expects Nehru to tap you on the shoulder. In fact, his South Block office of the Ministry of External Affairs was recreated with the furniture and things he used in his original office.
