The Ahmedabad Kite Festival is held during the festival of Uttarayan or the Makar Sankranti which is January 14 in most years. The kite festival starts a week preceding the Uttarayan Festival.
Description:Though Flying kites during Makar Sankranti has a long history, it was in 1989 that it became an official kite festival in the Tourism itinerary of Gujarat.
Thousands of kites fly in the skied of Ahmedabad on this day. Kite flying enthusiasts from over 30 countries participate in the International kite flying festival here.
Kites are flown everywhere in Ahmedabad during the festival time. However some venues are also prepared for the festival, like the Sabarmati Riverfront.
