Holy Mass Timings
Monday through Saturday Holy Mass at 7.00 am, 8.00 am and 6.00 pm
Sunday - 8:00 am, 9.15 am, 10.15 am (English) and 6.00 pm
First Friday Holy Hour Adoration at 5 pm followed by Mass at 6.00 pm.
Unless specified all services are in Konkani.
Confession can be done before or after the Mass or on request to the resident priest.
Public visiting time from 9.00 am to 6.30 pm on all days.
Description:Bom Jesus Church or the Bom Jesus Basilica is the oldest Basilica in India, the construction of which was started in 1594 and completed in 1605. It was elevated as a (minor) basilica in 1946. It is constructed in the Baroque architectural style. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Mortal remains of St. Francis Xavier who died in 1552 is kept here. Young Francis met Ignatius Loyola, who founded the Society of Jesus (Jesuites) and became one of the seven founding members of the society.
After death, the body of St.Francis Xavier was taken to Portugal but was brought back to Goa after two years. The body was said to be as fresh as when he was dead. The public viewing of his mortal remains is held once in 10 years. The last decennial exposition of St Francis Xavier was from Nov 2014 to Jan 2015.
