Schedule and Timing:
Malampuzha dam and garden timings are from 9.00am to 8.00pm all days of the week. Garden illumination after sunset on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays.
Snake park and Ropeway are closed on Mondays.
Swimming pool timings are from 9.00am to 6.00pm. Between 2.00pm to 3.00pm only ladies will be allowed.
Description:Malampuzha Dam constructed in the year 1959 and the associated gardens are among the most popular picnic spots in Kerala. A number of other attractions are also present alongside the Malampuzha Dam and gardens and is a perfect day's outing for all age groups.
Main attractions at Malampuzha as follows.
Malampuzha Dam
The dam has a length of 220 metres and a height of 335 ft and is built across Malampuzha, a tributary of Bharatapuzha. It is the second largest reservoir in Kerala. Though providing irrigation is the main purpose of the dam, it is also a source of drinking water to Palakkad town and nearby villages. It also houses a mini hydel power plant.
Malampuzha Gardens
Malampuzha garden is a vast landscaped area on one side of the dam. It is lush green with plenty of lawn area. It follows an orderly layout with areas defined in rectangular and circular shapes. The famous Malampuzha Yakshi, a sculpture by Kanai Kunhiraman adds a distinctive charm to the garden. Several other statues are also present. A swimming pool is available in the garden.
Walking over the two hanging bridges across the canal brings some excitement as it sways as you walk.
Malampuzha Ropeway
One can enjoy the beautiful view of the garden from the top on a ropeway covering the width of the dam.
Malampuzha Rock Garden
Just a few hundred metres from the Malampuzha dam is the Malampuzha rock garden. The rock-cut garden gives a novel artistic experience. It houses a large number of artworks made primarily of rock. Other materials are things generally considered as waste materials.
Other Attractions
Snake Rehabilitation Centre, Freshwater, Aquarium, Toy train for kids, Japanese garden are other attractions at Malampuzha Dam. There are also shopping outlets and restaurants nearby the gardens.
Tickets / Registration:Entry fee for an adult is Rs.25. Children under 12 years, Rs.10. Separate fees for ropeway and snake park. Swimming pool charges are Rs.75 per person for an hour. Locker fee is Rs.15 and a caution deposit of Rs. 100 need to be paid for using the locker. Dam top safari on ropeway - Rs.15 for one way and Rs.25 for two way ride.
