The archaeological museum at Mehrauli is open on all days of the week from sunrise to sunset.
Description:The archaeological park at Mehrauli spread over 100 acres, the hilly green space in the southern edge of the capital has seventy monuments including tombs, mosques, caravanserais, gardens, gateways, follies and from almost every period of medieval India.
There are Lal Kot walls of the pre-Islamic times, the Qutab Minar of the slave dynasty, tombs of the Lodhi period, pavilions of the Mughal period and follies of the British.
The Jamali Kamali mosque and tomb is the park’s main attraction. It combines two dynasties. Sheikh Fazalullah also known as Jamali Kamali was a poet, both in Sikandar Lodhi’s and Humayun's courts, built his own tomb in 1528.
This is one of those rare Delhi monuments which have retained almost perfectly its interior decorations.
Rajon ki Baoli of the Lodhi era, Delhi’s oldest stepwell has cool arched corridors. As one climb down the steep stairs and reach the bottom level where once heat stricken Delhites would go for refuge during summers.
The door of the adjacent tomb offers kaleidoscopic views of the Mehrauli countryside with ruins emerging from under a sea of thick green vegetation.
Another attraction is the Metcalfe’s Folly a lighthouse offering an excellent view.
