Interiors of Jain Shvetambar Temple
The central courtyard overhanging with four huge chandeliers had exquisitely carved arches. At the corner sits the dramatic black image of Lord Parasnath, the 23rd Tirthankara.
In the sanctum sanctorum is the white marble statue of the chief deity - the fifth Tirthankara (meaning enlightened), SUmatinath. He wears a silver crown, a diamond tilak and a gold necklace. The dome is covered by gold leaves, while the silver-plated door opening into the shrine has an icon of Lakshmi.
The second floor is more flamboyant with wall-sized glass mosaics representing the life of Lord Mahavir. The dome is painted with figures of nobles, musicians and dancers.
The museum on the ground floor has rare manuscripts, embroideries in gold thread and objects of pure silver.
