Schedule and Timing:

The Rail Museum at New Delhi is open all days of the week except Mondays, from 10.00 am to 5.00pm. Entry will be closed by 4.30pm. Buffet dinner at theme restaurant on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 6.00pm to 9.00pm.

Description:

The National Rail Museum at Chanakyapuri in New Delhi is a grand memoir of the heritage of Indian Railways which has a history of more than one and half centuries. It is set up in an area of about 10 acres of land and has both indoor and outdoor exhibition spaces. A visit to the rail museum in Delhi is intriguing and fun for kids as well as adults.

Things to watch at the rail museum

Visitors can see the transformation of the locomotive engine; from the steam engines to the diesel engines and to those running on electricity. The evolution of these engines and the various phases can be seen in the engines displayed in the museum.

It houses different styles of coaches used especially those used in the various princely states of the pre-independence era. It also includes miniature models and other exhibits related to the Indian railway.

Things to experience at the rail museum
Various fun rides are available that can be enjoyed by children as well as adults. Train Simulator rides (Steam, Diesel) are both fun and intriguing. Children will enjoy joy and toy train rides.

On Fridays and weekend evenings, buffet in a theme based restaurant along with attractive prizes are offered.

History

The foundation stone for the rail museum was laid in 1971 and was inaugurated in the year 1977. It evolved in stages to become the National Rail Museum in 1995. 

The national rail museum offers an interesting time travel of the Indian railways that started in 1845.

Rail Museum Delhi Ticket Price - A person of age 12 years and above is considered adult and from 3 to 12 considered child. Ticket rate from Monday through Friday: Rs. 50 for Adult and Rs. 10 for children. Weekend and Govt. Holidays: Rs. 100 for adult and Rs. 20 for a child. Bheem Diesel Simulator: Rs.150 for adult and child. Weekend and Govt. Holidays rates, Rs. 300 for Adult and Child. Steam Loco Simulator: Rs.150 for adult and child. Weekend and Govt. Holidays rates, Rs. 300 for adult and child. 3D Virtual Coach Ride: Rs.100 for adult and child. Weekend and Govt. Holidays rates, Rs. 200 for adult and child. Toy Train 1:8: Rs.100 for adult and child. Weekend and Govt. Holidays rates, Rs. 200 for adult and child. Joy Train: Rs.20 for adult and Rs.10 for a child. Weekend and Govt. Holidays rates, Rs. 50 for adult and Rs.20 child. PSMT Steam Ride Every Thursday and Saturday: Rs. 200 per adult or child. Friday through Sunday Evening Buffet at theme restaurant and Souvenir: Rs. 500 per adult and Rs. 300 for a child. (Age proof may be required.) Gold Package on weekdays Rs. 300 for adults and Rs. 260 for the child. On weekends and Govt. Holidays Rs. 600 for adults and Rs. 520 for a child. The package includes Main Gate Entry, Joy Train Ride, Toy Train Ride 1:8, Diesel Simulator Ride and Coach Simulator Ride. Diamond Package on weekdays Rs. 400 for adults and Rs. 370 for a child. On weekends and Govt. Holidays Rs. 810 for adults and Rs. 730 for a child. The package includes Main Gate Entry, Joy Train Ride, Toy Train Ride 1:8, Diesel Simulator Ride, Steam Simulator Ride and Coach Simulator Ride. A 50% concession on entry charges only on weekdays for a group of minimum 30 or more from an educational institution. An application on the institution's letterhead is required for availing the concession.
