Schedule and Timing:

The Peruvanam Pooram is held in the Pooyam asterisk in the Malayalam month of Meenam, which usually falls in the latter half of March. The ceremonial processions and rituals begin the day before.

Description:

The Peruvanam Pooram Festival is held at the centuries-old Peruvanam temple situated in the Cherpu panchayat of Thrissur district. It is also called Irattayappan temple. The Sanctum Santorum here is over 100 feet in height.

The festivities associated with the Pooram are limited, however, the rituals associated with the Pooram are ceremoniously held every year. The traditional percussion is a major highlight of the Peruvanam Pooram.

As much as 18 Gods and Goddesses from the nearby temples participate in the Pooram. Prominent among them are Ezhunnellippu from Arattupuzha, Chathakkudam, Cherpu and Oorakam.

Lord Siva or the Peruvanathappan is the presiding deity. The other participants are Nettissery, Kodannur, Nankulam, Edakkunni, Chakkamkulam, Chittichathakkudam, Thaikkattussery, Medamkulam, Kallely, Poonilarkkavu, Mattil etc.

Thousands of lovers of the traditional percussion visit to enjoy the Pandi and Panchari Melam by some of its best exponents.

Schedule of Major events of the Peruvanam Pooram

5 pm - Kadalassery Pisharikkal Bhagavathy come in procession escorted by five elephants accompanied by Melam.

6 pm - Arattupuzha Sasthavu comes in procession from the eastern gate escorted by seven elephants and Pandi Melam.

7 pm - Chathakkudam Santhavu and Thottippal Bhagavathy Come in procession escorted by seven elephants accompanied by Pancharimelam.

11 pm - Oorakam Ammathiruvadi and Chathakkudam Sathavu come in procession together escorted by seven elephants accompanied by Panchari melam.

Cherpu Bhagavathy comes in procession from Thayamkulangara escorted by three elephants accompanied by Panchavadyam.

12.00 am - Peruvanam Vilakku with eleven elephants and Panchari Melam.

4 am - Cherpu Bhagavathy along with Aikunnu Bhagavathy return in procession escorted by seven elephants accompanied by Panchari Melam.
