Anayoottu at Vadakkumnnathan Temple is on the first day of the Karkitakam month. Mahaganapati Homam will begin at 5.30am. Anayoottu will begin by 9.30am.
Description:Anayoottu is the ritual of feeding Elephants with Sugarcane, ghee, rice, pineapple, banana, jaggery, cucumber and Mahaganapati Homa Prasadam. Ashtachoornam is also given for the good health of elephants.
The ceremonial feeding is based on the belief that the Elephants represents Lord Ganesha and feeding them will clear the obstacles in one's life. Devotees also get a chance to feed the elephants.
About 50 elephants participate in the Anayoottu every year. It is an opportunity for elephant lovers to meet so many elephants together. Anayyootu is held inside the Vadakkunnathan temple premises.
Mahaganapati Homam will also be conducted along with Anayottu. Mahaganapati Homa Prasadam is prepared using Coconut, Jaggery, Avil, Malar, Ghee, Sugarcane, Sesame seeds, Honey and Ganapati Naranga (Citron).
Anayyootu ritual is organised by the Vadakkunnathan Kshethra Samiti and Anayoottu Samiti. The chief priest of the temple presides over the ceremonies.
