Thiruvathira Mahotsavam at Rajakkad Mahadeva Temple is celebrated in the Makayiram and Thiruvathira asterisk in the Malayalam month of Dhanu, the main day being the latter. This is usually falls in mid January.
Description:Thiruvathira Mahotsavam is celebrated in the Mahadevar temple at Rajakkad. The two day event is marked by the Thiruvathira, a dance performance done to please Lord Siva. Unmarried women observe fast known as the Ardra Vratham on the Thiruvathira day to get good husbands while the married women observe 24 hour fast or vratham from the Makayiram day or the day before the Thiruvathira for the well being of their husband and family.
Thiruvathira puzhukku is distributed to the devotees as prasadam.
