The Legend of Vandanmedu Maha Ganapati Temple

Uru Mooppan or the tribal chief of the forest elders took away an idol that was lying in the forest and handed it over to the elder Mooppan. At night, a group of elephants came to the elder Mooppan's house. They got frightened.

on the suggestion of the elder Mooppan, the idol was brought back to where it was found without delay. Then the elephants also went away.

When the divine presence was evident, people began to worship there. It is believed that the place later became a temple.

The same old idol is still here. This temple is believed to be a thousand years old. Maha Ganapati is the principal deity of the temple. The Sastha is on the right side of the sanctum sanctorum and the Vanadurga on the left are separately located.

A full size idol of the Maha Ganapati, the biggest in South India, was consecrated on 20th May, 2018.

Daily puja is conducted three times. Mahaganapathy Homam is the major offering.

On the festival day the procession starts from the temple reaches the Arattu Kadavu. From there escorted by elephants, Thalapoli and accompanied by Melam, reaches Amayal junction and then return back to the temple.
