The Legend and History of the Valayanad Devi Temple.
The richness and economic prosperity of Malabar relied mainly on Valluvanad and Kozhikode. This was attributed to the gifts showered by the deity worshipped by the Valluvakonathiri and the Zamorin Dynasty.
The power struggle between the Valluakonathiri and the Zamorin led to the defeat of the Zamorin. Despite the strength of the Zamorin's army at that time, Valluvakonathiri, who was far off from the Zamorin's army defeated the Zamorin. Zamorin found that this was due to the power of the Devi worshipped by the Valluvakonathiri.
The zamorin meditated on the deity that Valluakonathiri prayed (Thirumandhamkunnu Bhagavathi) that made the Devi appear to the Zamorin, who brought it back to his hometown. When accompanied, Bhagavathi told the Zamorin king. 'The moment you suspect me and turn your back, I will go back.' The Zamorin Raja went in front and the Bhagavathi followed behind.
However after a long time, as the Zamorin did not hear the sound of the Chilanka, he turned back to look.
When the King looked back, the goddess saw him. The goddess took out and threw her bangle and said. The place this fall will have my presence. The bangle fell at the place of the present temple. From then on, the Valayanad Bhagavathy is worshipped by the Zamorins.
