The 21 day festival begins with the flag hositing on the Kumbha Bharani day and ends with Arattu on the Thiruvonam day.
Description:Devotees offer Kumbhakudam and Thalapoli offerings on all days of the festival. Another unique offering at Kanichukulangara Devi temple is the Chikkara Kottikkal. Here kids who come as Chikkarakuttikal receive a special welcome and are treated like a Devi. The welcoming ceremony is held on the 7th day from the flag hosting day.
Earlier on the Makara Sankranti day the representatives of the temple visit the Padakulam family Karanavar to seek permission for conducting the festival. This is a ritual followed here in relation to the temple festival.
