Schedule and Timing:

The Kolayat Mela is held on the occasion of the Kartik Poornima which is falls in November. The fair starts two days prior to Kartik Poornima.

Description:

On the Kartik Poornima day, thousands throng to the Kapil Sarovar to take a dip also called the Kartik Snan, that they believe will wash away their sins.

There are 52 Snan ghats in this lake and many devotees come to take a dip as well as participate in the Deepamalika ritual in the evening. Oil lamps are lit and floated over the leaves into the lake.

A large livestock fair is held along with this religious event. Mainly camels are traded in this Kolayat Mela.

It is believed that the Kapil Muni had done meditation in this place and hence it is also called the Kapil Muni Fair.
