The Kottankulangara Chamayavilakku is on the 10th and 11th of the Malayalam month of Meenam. This usually falls in the latter half of March. The ritual timings as follows.
First Day
2nd day
3 am - Chamayavillaku followed by Arattu.
Description:Kottankulangara Sree Devi temple near Chavara Kollam has this unique way of pleasing the presiding deity. Men crossdress as women and take up a lantern (vilakku) and circumambulate the temple. They then line up to receive the blessings of the Devi. The Devi is believed to fulfil the wishes of the devotees.
The two-day utsavam is organised by the two sides, Chavara-Pudukkad kara on one day and Kulangarabhafam-Kottakkakam kara on the other day. The 'Kuruthola Pandal' and decorations is another highlight of the festival.
