Description:

Oachira Panthrandu Vilakku or the Oachira Mahotsavam is a twelve day festival celebrated at Oachira Temple dedicated to the Omhkara or the Para Brahma.

The place is unique in the sense that there is no Sanctum Sanctorum, Murthi or a definite structure which are the hallmarks of a temple. It spans an area of 36 acres.

Oachira Kali and Irupathettam Onam are the other two major celebrations here.

Legend and History of Oachira Temple

The legend says that Akavoor Chathan was one among the twelve born of the Parayi or the Pariah women which gave birth to 12 clans or the Panthirukulam. This lefend is popularly called the Parayipetta Panthirukulam.

Chathan had a Brahmin master who was a devotee of the Parabrahma. When Chathan asked how the Parabrahma looked like, his master played on his innocence and showed him a bull standing in front.

Later while on a journey, the master saw Chathan actually conversing with the bull that appeared to Chathan when he started worshipping Parabrahma as a bull.

The Chathan and the bull did not continue the journey with the Brahmin master and stayed back at that place with their divine powers.
