The Neelamperoor Padayani Pooram is held on the Pooram asterisk that comes after the Thiruvonam asterisk in the month of Chingam. The NeelamperoorPadayani is of 16 days that begins on the day after Thiruvonam on Chingam, which is Avittam day and end on the forthcoming Pooram day.
Description:The highlight of the Nelamperoor Padayani is the giant effigies of the Kettukazhchakal, the makings of which starts right after the Avittam day of Chingam.
The effigies are that of swans, (a giant one and a number of smaller ones), and epic characters Bhima, Hanuman, Yakshi etc. They are taken on a procession with traditional percussion and accompanying folk songs.
Padayani literally means military march.
