Sri Nellikulangara Bhagavathi temple, Nenmara, Palakkad, Kerala, India

Free entry. Registration not required.

Schedule and Timing:

The Festival at Nellikulangara Bhagavathy Temple begins with the flag hoisting on the 1st of Meenam and lasts 20 days. The final day or the 20th of Mennam is the Nenmara Vallangi Vela. This usually falls in the month of April.

Nenmara Vallangi Vela also called the Nenmara vela is probably the most elaborate of the local harvest festivals within Kerala. The two constituent Desoms of Nenmara and Vallangi engage in a friendly rivalry to make the vela an exciting festival experience.

The highlights of the festival are

  • Folk art performances of Kummatti, Karivela and Andivela
  • Elephant pageantry with some of the tallest elephants present in Kerala.
  • Grand Illuminated Pandals.
  • Melam led by some of the top exponents.
  • Fireworks

As the procession from each Desom reaches the temple, Panchavadyam or the traditional percussion is performed with great zest.
