Pattambi Nercha is held annually and is celebrated on the first Sunday of March every year. Generally, a two-day carnival fest is also organised which includes the day before the Pattambi Nercha.
Description:Pattambi Nercha is held every year at Pattambi in Palakkad District of Kerala. It is celebrated in memory of Aloor Valiya Pookunjikoya Thangal. A long and elaborate cultural procession is the highlight of Pattambi Nercha.
Nearly a hundred tuskers will be a part of the possession. Large floats and various Muslim art form s like Kolkali and Duffmuttu along with other folk arts will be displayed. Band melam and Shinkari melam adds to the exuberance.
The procession ends by midnight on the banks of Bharathapuzha where the melam tempo reaches its peak.
Pattambi town will wear a carnival mood during the Nercha and it is common to have a local fest spanning two days including the day of the Nercha. It is a celebration where all communities participate.
