Guruvayur is the most important Hindu pilgrimage centre in Kerala. Lord Vishnu is worshipped as Guruvayurappan.
Dress code
Men need to wear mundu around their waist. Veshti (a small piece of unstitched cloth) is allowed to be put around their shoulders covering the chest. But no shirt or other dress is allowed for covering the chest. Shorts are allowed for boys, but shirts are not allowed for boys as well. Women need to wear sari and girls are to wear long skirt and blouses. Salwar kameez or chudidhar pyjamas may also be used by women. No other dresses are allowed for women.
